“In Loving Sacrifice”

. . . SACRIFICE . . .

The sacrifice of love we give,
Takes less and yet gives more;
An everlasting hand of love,
The heart an open door.

The willingness to give of self,
To lay down your own life;
To touch another person’s heart,
In loving sacrifice.

A chance that God has given you,
To reach another soul;
Forever changed by kindness,
A life your love made whole.

For life is but a circle,
Each life part of the chain;
Each link is joined by sacrifice,
That causes man to change.

To turn and reach a hand of love,
To touch another’s life;
Will cause the circle to be whole,
In loving sacrifice.

Allison Chambers I found this poem online and I really liked it. It is basicically about what sacrifice means and that we are obligated to make sacrifices. In each stanza, Chambers gives another reason why making sacrifices is a good thing. In her eyes, God gave us life in order to make a mark in someone else’s. A sacrifice is a gesture, small or large, that has the ability to unify. Any act of kindness, reaching out to someone no matter who they are, connects the circle of life. An example she gives of this is ultimately love. Love is the probably the smallest sacrifice you can make, but it impacts a person the most. Making sacrifices for others helps you grow and better yourself as a person, especially if you don’t expect anything in return. No matter if the person returns the favor or not, the good within you will always be rewarded. So Chambers encourages sacrifices in her poem in order to link the chains of life and hopefully keep the kindness circulating to better the world and fulfill God’s intentions of creating life.

  1. OK…your commentary is TOO HARD TO READ!!! The reason to have a blog is so that you can reach an audience…you need to make this appealing…or at the least…readable.
    If you are analyzing a poem…use direct quotes….then you need to establish the big picture…what is your conclusion? That is not what the poem meant, but why this poem is important.
    attempts to synthesize information and form new meaning;
    written in a somewhat interesting style and voice; sentence fluency is poor because of use of pronouns (you and it)
    few spelling errors; few grammar errors; there MUST BE some formatting to help make the post easier to read
