“I love the confidence that makeup gives me.”
~Tyra Banks

I find this to be a very controversial quote. Personally, I agree with Tyra. Makeup and dressing up makes me feel so much more confident than when I dress like a bum, hair pulled back and no effort. Some girls tend to believe that makeup makes them beautiful and without it they are hideous. In some ways, makeup contradicts self confidence. Women should feel confident and beautiful on their worst days, just the same as their best.

Some women may argue that makeup shows the fake aspects of a person. A truly beautiful and confident women should not need or want to transform their face. Personally, I have plenty of friends that feel vulnerable and embarrassed by makeup, claiming that it makes them look like a clown or stupid.

Women throughout history put their health at risk with many of their homemade cosmetics. In some cultures, for example, women used arsenic, lead, mercury, and even leeches to give themselves the pale appearance deemed beautiful in the old days. To many women, beauty is confidence, and some will go to great lengths just to feel beautiful.

  1. I need to see a title!! (Although, I really like the quote…it is not a title)
I think you ended too soon…I was really interested in the women through history angle, and then you stopped after pale make-up and leeches. How did you connect this history to today? Where is your multimedia?
